“Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. Teach him how to fish,
and he can eat for the rest of his life.” Thioff used to be the commonest
fish in Senegal. Nowadays, it has all but disappeared. That’s a national
tragedy, considering that it’s a basic commodity for the Senegalese
people. What’s the principal cause of this fish’s disappearance?
Over-fishing on a global scale. From a general viewpoint, the North is
plundering the South. In Senegal, fishing is just one example of this,
among many others. |
